If you didn’t get your fill of the music of Georges Bizet with Carmen, you’re in luck. The second production of the 2017-2018 LA Opera season is Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers. Not performed anywhere near as often as Carmen, this opera tells the story of a woman wanted by two very close friends. It’s opera, so you know there’s high drama in store. Nino Machaidze, who has performed in La Traviata, The Elixir of Love and Thais with LA Opera returns in the role of Leila. Taking the podium for the first four performances is her co-star from Thais, Plácido Domingo. LA Master Chorale’s Grant Gershon conducts the final two performances.
