Given that the holidays are right around the corner, it is inevitable that productions of The Nutcracker will be plentiful. One person who always wanted to be in that ballet was Sandra Tsing Loh. Leave it to this staple of NPR to create show around her teenage obsession, her goal of being on stage and the reality of how it all played out. That’s precisely the concept of her show Sugar Plum Fairy which is in previews now prior to its official opening on Friday night at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa. Unlike her solo shows, she is joined by two other actors: Tony Abatemarco and Shannon Holt.

You might have seen her show The Bitch is Back at the Broad Stage. You might also have seen this show at the Geffen Playhouse. You may have read The Madwoman in the Volvo: My Year of Raging Hormones. For a season filled with good tidings, peace on earth, goodwill to men, you can count on Sugar Plum Fairy to be the perfect tonic for all that joy.
