If you find yourself in the San Diego area, you will want to check out the Old Globe Theatre production of Oscar Wilde’s classic play The Importance of Being Earnest. The play involves two bachelors who may or may not be posing as someone else or even each other. They fall in love with two women, but have to get approval from the very judgmental Lady Bracknell first.
The role of Lady Bracknell is often played by a man. In this production Helen Carey plays her. Matt Schwader and Christian Conn play the bachelors. Kate Abbruzzes and Helen Cespedes are the objects of their affections.
But who is Ernest and what’s so important about him? There’s a reason this play is produced over and over and over again. It’s that good and that funny. Maria Aitken directs. The show runs from January 27 – March 4.
