Though they didn’t come home with the Grammy Award recently for their newest album Uptown, Downtown, that won’t stop The Bill Charlap Trio from celebrating the music of Leonard Bernstein in this one-night only performance at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica on Thursday, February 8th.
Joining them for this concert is the amazing jazz singer Cécile McLorin Salvant (who did win the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album for Dreams and Daggers.)
The Trio recorded a full album of the songs of Leonard Bernstein for their 2004 release Somewhere – The Songs of Leonard Bernstein.
Salvant recorded Bernstein’s Something Coming from West Side Story for her album For One to Love.
The Bill Charlap Trio has performed before with Salvant. In speaking with Charlap for an interview to run Tuesday here at Cultural Attaché, he indicated that at the time of our speaking they hadn’t confirmed a set list yet. Whatever they choose I’m sure it will make for an unforgettable evening.
Of course you can always go to the 8:16 mark on this video and get a really good idea of what this combination of talents might sound like. It sounds pretty! Oh so pretty!
