Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic are closing out the 2017-2018 season with a series of concerts showcasing the work of Robert Schumann. Called Schumann Focus, the series gets started this week with Mitsuko Uchida playing the composer’s Piano Concerto in A Minor and the orchestra plays Schumann’s 1st Symphony for these two performances on Thursday and Friday. (We will be highlighting other concerts in this series in the days and weeks ahead.)

Uchida is one of the finest interpreters of the Romantic Era works. And she’s passionate in her appreciation of this particular work by Schumann as you can see in this video interview from 2009.

And to give you an idea of what the concerto sounds like, here is Uchida with the Berliner Philharmoniker from 2009:
