Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic continue Schumann Focus, their cycle of performances of the work of Robert Schumann. In these two concerts on Thursday and Friday the program begins with Schumann’s Overture to Genoveva. The overture is for the one and only opera that Schumann composed. It had only three performances and was widely criticized.
That is followed by Sol Gabetta playing the Cello Concerto in A Minor. Here is an excerpt of a performance she gave of this concerto.
The concert concludes with Schumann’s Symphony #3 in E Flat Major – called The Rhenish.
