One of the first revues to celebrate the music and words of Stephen Sondheim was Side By Side By Sondheim. The show began its life in 1976 in London and made its way to Broadway in 1977. A new production of Side By Side By Sondheim has just opened at the Odyssey Theatre in West Los Angeles.
This production stars Sarah Busic, Mark D. Kaufmann, Chris Kerrigan, Rachel McLaughlan and Mark J. Freeman. Dan Fishbach is the director and the musical director is Richard Berent.
As the show was originally produced in 1976, this revue includes songs up to Pacific Overtures. So you can expect to hear songs from Anyone Can Whistle, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music in addition to Pacific Overtures. There are also some songs that were cut from shows and music from the television movie, Evening Primrose, for which Sondheim wrote songs.
Side By Side By Sondheim continues through September 16th.
