The Los Angeles Master Chorale is celebrating this weekend’s holiday with two performances of a show entitled Great Opera & Film Choruses. What holiday? Well, May 4th of course. As in, May the Fourth Be With You. (If you don’t think this is truly a thing, where have you been?) The concerts take place on May 4th and 5th at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
For those of you most interested in the opera part of the program, you’ll find works from Pagliacci, Nabucco, Tannhäuser, Akhnaten and Madama Butterfly.
For those of you wondering what film scores will be performed, here’s what to expect: How to Train Your Dragon, Star Trek, Tag, Alice in Wonderland, Get Out, Us, Coco, Edward Scissorhands, Smallfoot, Despicable Me 3 and Captain Marvel.
Grant Gershon will lead the Master Chorale in these two final performances of the 2018-2019 season. Angelito Garcia and David Kakuk are both listed on the program as boy soloists. These will be purely choral performances. No film clips will accompany the singing.
Oh, and did I mention that the LA Master Chorale sang on the John Williams score for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. So fear not, Padawans. “Happiness to every guy sometimes this does.”
