Poor Plácido Domingo. He doesn’t have another performance of El Gato Montés at LA Opera until Thursday the 16th. What’s a poor opera singer to do? In this case, the opera singer who continues to defy expectations is performing a recital. On Tuesday, May 14th, Domingo will be performing at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica.

Soprano Ailyn Pérez will be featured in this program of Italian, Spanish and Mexican arias and duets. They will be accompanied by an orchestra lead by Eugene Kohn.

The intimate space at The Broad Stage means this concert offers up perhaps one of the most intimate recitals Domingo has given in quite a long time locally. That perhaps explains the $429 ticket price and the reality that this concert appears to have sold out.

If getting into The Broad Stage isn’t an option for you, there are still two performances left of El Gato Montés.

Domingo has long been an advocate for the works of Spanish and Mexican composers. His continuing to do so here is no surprise.

Nor is it a surprise that Pérez will be joining him. In addition to being a recipient of the 2012 Richard Tucker Award, she was the winner of the 15th annual Plácido Domingo Award. She is scheduled to perform at the Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts Masses by Beethoven & Haydn on May 25th and 26th.
