If you look at the website for Australian company Circa, they appear to bill themselves as a contemporary circus. But a closer look at the videos for Circa, it appears to me that they are as much a contemporary movement/performance art company as they are a circus. You’ll get to make up your minds which they are (or if they are all of it) when What Will Have Been is performed at the Yost Theatre in Santa Ana on May 30th and 31st.

What Will Have Been is one of twelve shows currently listed on their website. This engagement marks the first time the show has been performed in America. This production uses only three performers who use their bodies in extraordinary and extreme ways.

Circa definitely employs incredible displays of strength, a sense of humor, complex emotion and undeniable eroticism in What Will Have Been.

The trio is accompanied by a solo violinist marrying the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and electronica.

Does Circa share some sensibilities with Cirque du Soleil? That is unavoidable. But I think it is safe to say that, at least by what we can see of What Will Have Been, this is a much more adult hybrid of circus and the performing arts.

Circa is based in Brisbane and has toured the world with their shows.

What Will Have Been is 65 minutes in length.
