For pianist Jonathan Biss, little of the classical repertoire resonates on as many levels as the Beethoven’s piano sonatas. So he embarked on a nine-year program to record all of them and release one new recording each year. Biss and Beethoven are on the program in two different recitals of Beethoven’s sonatas when Biss takes to the stage at The Soraya on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The program on Tuesday night will be as follows: The Pastoral Sonata (Op. 28), Op. 49 no 2 in G major, The Moonlight Sonata), Op. 90 in E minor and Op. 101 in A major.

Wednesday’s program features Op. 10 no. 2 in F major, Op. 14 no. 2 in G Major, Op. 31 no. 3 in E-flat major and the “Hammerklavier” (Op. 106 in B-flat major.)

These two recitals will feature onstage seating putting you in close proximity to Biss as he performs these works. According to the website, Tuesday night’s recital has just a couple tickets left. Wednesday’s recital is sold out.

Tomorrow we will have an interview with Biss about his passion for these works.
