When the Bob Baker Marionette Theatre announced it was either closing and/or had to move out of its location on 1st street in Los Angeles, fans were crestfallen. Thankfully they only had to move and did not go out of business. And move they did. The new home for the Bob Baker Marionette Theatre is on York Street in Highland Park. To celebrate the season, they are currently presenting Holiday on Strings which will run through January 5th.
Holiday on Strings is an annual tradition with Bob Baker Marionette Theatre, The show touches on most of the major celebrations this time of year with an out-of-this world twist (as only Bob could have created.) Adults should know that each Bob Baker show has elements that will surprise the older set while still safely going over the heads of the youngsters.
If you’ve never experienced any of Bob Baker’s shows, you should. What sets their performances apart is that the performances all take place right in front of you. There’s no proscenium stage, there’s no mystery about people manipulating the strings. It is all tangible and there in plain sight. Kids of all ages are regularly seen with big smiles on their faces as these marionettes sing and dance.
So popular is this show that tickets for all performances prior to December 28th are already sold out. If you are willing to extend the holiday season through January 5th, you can still get tickets for Holiday on Strings.
Not only is this company performing at their new venue, they also have Bob Baker’s Nutcracker currently being performed at the Pasadena Playhouse through December 29th in the Carrie Hamilton Theatre.
