SubCulture New York has composer Jason Robert Brown in residence. For obvious reasons concerts cannot be held at the venue. But that won’t stop the music. On Monday, April 27th, Brown will be live-streaming a concert at 8:30 PM EDT/5:30 PM PDT on SubCulture’s Facebook Page. Joining him will be Ariana Grande and Shoshana Bean.
Brown is, of course, the Tony Award-winning composer of the musicals Parade, The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World, The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas and 13.
If you’re wondering how Brown and Grande find themselves together, as I’m sure many might be, Grande was in the cast of 13 on Broadway in 2008. They have remained friends. One of Brown’s songs, “Jason’s Song (Give It Away),” appeared on Grande’s Dangerous Woman album in 2016. The rest, as they say, is history.
Shoshana Bean, about whom we’ve written a few times, appeared on Broadway in Hairspray, Wicked and Waitress. She also has a voice that can blow the roof off any venue in which she performs.
Two great vocalists and a great composer. This should be a thoroughly entertaining live-stream concert.
Update: SubCulture just announced that this concert will begin at 8:30 PM EDT/5:30 PM PDT
