We often wonder why our elected officials seem to lack a sense of humor. Or why they lack any awareness of the absurdity of it all. That isn’t the case with Kristina Wong who both serves in office and is also a performance artist with a wicked sense of humor.

She combines both those seemingly disparate sensibilities in a new one-person show called Kristina Wong for Public Office

Kristina Wong for Public Office examines the role an artist, who is also a politician, can play in the democratic process. She also examines what that process is like, the history of voting and what it takes to run a campaign – all filtered through Wong’s unique perspective.

Wong is the elected representative of Wilshire Center Koreatown Sub-district 5 Neighborhood Council in Los Angeles. She’s appeared in the pages of and on shows on American Public Media’s Marketplace, CNN, Huffington Post, Jezebel, PBS, Playgirl Magazine and VICE.

Her show, Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was filmed and is available as a concert film. She’s the recipient of multiple grants and awards.

The show was created by Kristina Wong and Diana Wyenn. It was directed by Wyenn.

The 75-minute comedy performance became available at last Friday from Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles. This is part of their Digital Stage program that offers archived performances from CTG and other worldwide venues and newly-created material.

Tickets to watch Kristina Wong for Public Office are $10 and are available on the Center Theatre Group website.
