If you were unable to catch any of the streaming productions Canada’s Stratford Festival made available earlier this year, Center Theatre Group is making a few of them available through their Digital Stage+ program beginning with Romeo and Juliet.
Antoine Yared and Sara Farb play the star-crossed lovers in Scott Wentworth’s production from 2017. The cast also includes Marion Adler as Lady Capulet, Evan Buliung as Mercutio, Jamie Mac as Benvolio, Seana McKenna as Nurse, Zlatomir Moldovanski as Tybalt and Gordon Patrick White as Paris.
The Toronto Star said of this production, “At the production’s heart is the freshness and credibility of the relationship between Sara Farb and Antoine Yared as the title characters. They play them as youthful, impulsive, and vivacious, but far from a perfect hero and heroine. There are tantrums, shrieks, and teenage mood swings aplenty, many of which play as welcome moments of comedy. The usually central scenes of their meeting, marriage, and morning-after-consummation are handled swiftly, as pivot points in the driving forward action.”
This is the first of five productions that CTG will be making available. Upcoming in this series will be Love’s Labour’s Lost on January 14th; Antony & Cleopatra on February 11th; King Lear and March 11th and Macbeth on April 8th.
Tickets are free for donor and subscribers. $10 for everyone else.
