To close out the year I’m posting videos from the top 12 interviews from 2024. These were a mix of my personal favorites, some of your favorites and a few that may have slipped under the radar. Admittedly not a family name, but RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 drag queen began her life as a young man named Jason De Puy who had dreams of appearing on stage in musicals. In fact, De Puy went to school and studied musical theater. When the allure of drag became overwhelming (after considerable resistance at first), that dream seemed to be going to be relegated to the dustbin of so many of one’s dreams.
Enter La Cage Aux Folles at the Pasadena Playhouse. Salina got cast as one of the Cagelles, the drag performers who back up the star. This production, which starred Cheyenne Jackson, reawakened Salina’s passion and she has hopes that more musicals will be in her future. As she discussed in our interview late this year.
It should be note that I’ve known Salina/Jason for several years. There’s a familiarity to this interview that makes it one of my favorites and thus found a place on the Top 12 of 2024.
