To close out the year I’m posting videos from the top 12 interviews from 2024. These were a mix of my personal favorites, some of your favorites and a few that may have slipped under the radar. Did you check out our brand new interview with legendary vocalist Marilyn Maye? We continue with #7: ELIM CHAN.
Fans of the Los Angeles Philharmonic know that the clock is starting to tick ever so much more loudly as we near the end of Gustavo Dudamel’s tenure as Music Director. I personally think it would be a great move if the LA Phil hired its first female music director. What better place to start looking than with conductor Elim Chan.
Chan opened the Classical Season at the Hollywood Bowl this year and a week later was opening the BBC’s Proms in London. Those are two very prestigious spots for any conductor. To have both means that Chan is clearly on the rise and if LA doesn’t grab her, someone else certainly will.
I asked Chan many things during our conversation and amongst them was about the idea of her taking the podium in Los Angeles once Dudamel departs. Take a look at what she said.
