Cultural Attaché’s Icons 2025 continues with Broadway veteran Robert Westenberg who is traveling the United States in the role of Neil Diamond (Now) in the musical A Beautiful Noise.

I’ve been following Robert Westenberg’s career for quite some time having seen him in the original productions of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musicals Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods.

He hadn’t been on stage in quite some time and certainly not on tour for even longer. Westenberg had turned his attention most recently to directing. But the chance to play the part of one of his heroes was too good to pass up.

I spoke on July 17th with Westenberg about his return to the stage (his last show was in 2009), his experiences working with Stephen Sondheim and about his recent encounter with the man he’s playing on stage – a man whose music he has loved for years. The video was posted on July 23rd.
