Imagine going on a first date with someone. It goes well enough that you are invited back to your date’s house. Things are looking pretty good. But what if the outside world suddenly seems to be going wildly wrong? What if it gets so bad that you are your date have to figure out how best to navigate the horrors going on outside by learning to trust each other? Can two people who barely know each other come together to survive? That’s the premise in Ike Holter’s Put Your House in Order which is having its world premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse. Performances just began and the play is scheduled to run through June 30th at the Mandell Weiss Forum.
Put Your House in Order is billed as equally parts romantic comedy and old-school thriller. Holter is best known locally for his play Hit the Wall which played at LGBT Center in Los Angeles and was extended multiple times. Earlier this year the Goodman Theatre in Chicago gave the world premiere of Lottery Day. That production sold out and was the culmination of a 7-play cycle, Rightlynd Saga. Holter also wrote the sixth episode, All I Care About Is Love, of Fosse/Verdon on F/X.
