Zimmerman takes Jason’s search for the Golden Fleece, and puts Jason (Ty Mayberry) and Medea (Angela Gulner) front and center in Argonautika. You’ll still get Athena (Trisha Miller), Hera (Veralyn Jones), Aphrodite (Cassandra Marie Murphy), Hercules (Frederick Stuart) and Andromeda (Helen Jane Planchet) in this telling of the myth. But there will be more of a female point of view here. Written in 2006, the play is based on the epic poem by Apollonious of Rhodes.

In 2002, Zimmerman won the Tony Award for Best Direction of Play for her adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. A Noise Within’s Julia Rodriguez-Elliot directs this production.

Argonautika runs 2 hours and 15 minutes with one intermission.

When the original production of the Dale Wasserman, Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion musical Man of La Mancha opened on Broadway in 1965, no one would have expected that the show would run for nearly six years and 2,328 performances.  Equally surprising is how successful A Noise Within has been with their production of the same musical. So they’ve brought Man of La Mancha back and it opens this weekend for a run through September 9th.

Perhaps it is the source material by Cervantes that continues to inspire people. Or it is the whimsical nature of Don Quixote as a character. Or it could be that the show features one of the most popular songs to ever come from a Broadway show:

(RIP Aretha Franklin.)

Director Julie Rodriguez-Elliot helms this production with Geoff Elliot as Don Quixote, Cassandra Marie Murphy as Aldonza and Kasey Mahaffy as Sancho Panza. The show runs just under two hours with no intermission.
