The Fountain Theatre, regularly home to some of the best live local theatre in Los Angeles, presents the Southern California premiere of Daniel’s Husband by Michael McKeever. The production begins previews on May 1st with the official opening on May 4th. The play is now scheduled to run through July 28th.
As you might imagine with the title, gay marriage is the topic here. By all definitions Daniel (Bill Brochtrup) and Mitchell (Tim Cummings) have the kind of relationship everyone would want. They are great friends, they have an amazing house. Hell, there’s even an approving mother (Jenny O’Hara). Though on the surface they have everything a couple could want, they don’t see eye-to-eye on marriage. Mitchell’s position on marriage is put to the test when a life-changing event happens. An event so calamitous that when the play was performed in Manhattan, Alexis Soloski of The New York Times said , “…it’s still a tear-jerker and a heart-yanker. If ushers distributed Kleenex along with the programs, it wouldn’t be a bad thing.”
So prepare yourself. What might start as a fairly comical evening apparently turns very emotional.
Jose Fernando and Ed Martin play the couple’s best friends. Daniel’s Husband is directed by Simon Levy.
The production schedule has performances on Friday and Saturday night with matinees on Saturday and Sunday. There’s also a Monday night performance which is “pay what you can.”
