HAPPY NEW YEAR! To close out the year I’m posting videos from the top 12 interviews from 2024. These were a mix of my personal favorites, some of your favorites and a few that may have slipped under the radar. Plus we added a brand new interview with legendary vocalist Marilyn Maye. Did you catch that one? We continue with #6: MINK STOLE.
Stole is best-known for her work with writer/director John Waters. This year she was performing live on stage with Peaches Christ in Idol Worship, a show that featured the two artists sharing songs, stories and the stage. The show was so popular that they will be going out on the road again in 2024 to share their wit, wisdom and womanhood.
In the course of this interview, Stole talked about how all of her success surprises her. She said, in fact, “Never in a million years” did she anticipate having this kind of fame, this large a fan base and a show that focused on her and her work. She also talked about John Waters’ annual summer camp and her participation there plus how “baffled” she is that John Waters had an exhibit at the Motion Picture Academy Museum. Not that it wasn’t warranted.
“This is stuff that was reviled when we did it. Over 50 years ago now that we did Pink Flamingos, people hated us. Not everybody, but the mainstream press and the mainstream cinema world, they hated us. It was through John’s absolute dedication to what he had done. He worked really hard.”
