The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts kicks off their “The Sorting Room” series of cabaret shows with two performances by Jason Robert Brown on Thursday. He’s the Tony Award-winning composer behind such musicals as The Bridges of Madison County, Parade, Songs for a New World and Honeymoon in Vegas. He also wrote The Last Five Years which was made into a movie with Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick.
Brown often calls on some of his Broadway friends to join him for these shows. So you never know who might drop in. Also, the show promises to showcase not just songs from these shows, but also new material in development. To get a sense of how entertaining he can be in concert, you should check out his 2014 concert with Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, Caroline, or Change).
Even if you’ve never seen one of his Broadway shows, you’ll find yourself wildly entertained at his concert. And hopefully you’ll be inspired to check out his work.
Other concerts in this series include: Shaina Taub, Pia Toscano and Liz Callaway.
