Center Theatre Group’s Block Party series continues this week at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City with Ameryka. The production, from Critical Mass Performance Group, seems like it fits in perfectly in our world where history is being reinvented and retold (a la Hamilton and Taylor Mac‘s A 24-Decade History of Popular Song.)
Written and directed by Nancy Keystone (and created in collaboration with the company), Ameryka looks at 250 years of history. Key points along the journey include the battle for civil rights, the American Revolution, the war on terror and the cold war – all the biggies! And somehow it connects the United States to Poland. The production uses original music, found text and more to tell their story.
The cast includes Curt Bonnem, Russell Edge, Ray Ford, Richard Gallegos, Lorne Green, Drew Stafford Harper, Nick Santoro, Liza Seneca and Valerie Spencer.
