Wood Boy Dog Fish has a hashtag that says #killthecricket. So if you believe the Walt Disney version of Pinocchio was a little tame for your taste, this distinctly macabre version might be more your speed. Wood Boy Dog Fish is currently playing at the Garry Marshall Theatre in Burbank. The show was written and conceived by Chelsea Sutton with Rogue Artists Ensemble. Original music is by Adrien Prévost.

The story may be familiar, but the way of telling it certainly won’t be. Though puppetry is included in the performance, Wood Boy Dog Fish also employs special effects, 3D effects, dance, interactive sets and more. Plus it is advised you show up an hour before curtain to take advantage of the carnival environment that serves to get you in the mood for this distinctly darker telling of the little wooden boy who believes being real is a good idea!

The show carries a rating of PG-13. Not what you usually see on plays, but that just offers one more idea that this isn’t your grandparent’s Pinocchio.
