When I spoke recently with Peaches Christ, she said of her experience at RuPaul’s Drag Con, “I was walking around with Coco Peru and we were featured as legends – which is a hilarious way of not calling us old.” Truth be told, both Peaches and Miss Coco Peru have been around, but doesn’t being older mean being wiser? One way to find out is with this week’s Miss Coco Peru: Have You Heard? She performs her latest show at the Renberg Theatre Friday through Sunday.
Have You Heard? finds Coco revisiting some of her favorite stories and songs from her vast career. And don’t be surprised if there’s some new material thrown in for good measure.
If her face looks familiar, but you can’t place the name, Coco has appeared several times on Will and Grace (and if you saw this season’s final episode, Coco married Jack at the airport.) She also appeared on How I Met Your Mother and in the film To Wong Foo… She’s a staunch advocate for the LGBTQ community. Her work earned her the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Board of Directors Award.
She may be a legend (or old…it depends on with whom you’re speaking) and she is no doubt a supporter, but you go to a show for the humor. And trust me, Miss Coco Peru can make you laugh. Or haven’t you heard?
