Cultural Attaché’s Icons 2025 profiles composer Angélica Negrón. In October the Dallas Symphony Orchestra gave the world premiere of for everything you keep losing, her first requiem.
She also curated a program of new music for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s important Green Umbrella Series and she was still working on a cello concerto for Yo-Yo Ma. The LA Phil gives the world premiere on May 28th with a second concert on May 30th.
Composer Angélica Negrón has built an extraordinary career expanding the language of contemporary music while grounding it in human experience. Born and raised in Puerto Rico and now based in New York, Negrón’s work blends acoustic and electronic worlds, found sounds and field recordings, and deep emotional clarity.
In this conversation, Negrón discusses how her creative voice has evolved, how silence becomes sound, the intersections of identity and ecology, and why curiosity remains her most important tool. We spoke on October 8th. This interview was posted on October 14th.
